I want my students to learn as much as they can but in an enjoyable way. As an art teacher I believe that students will learn visually. I would focus on explaining and showing examples or a display to give them ideas. Many teachers don’t give the student’s freedom when they draw which is something I don’t want the students to experience. A student’s creativity and seeing them smile at what they accomplished is the best feeling for a teacher to experience. I also believe that as an art teacher, if I’m not excited or show any passion in what I do then the student’s will know and think its okay to not try as hard or show any effort. This goes to show that students will notice a teacher’s efforts and perform the same effort they see.
My philosophy is that I want to incorporate the five senses into teaching art. Such as drawing what they see or drawing what they experience when touching certain materials. I love art to be free and crazy and show that a student is full of potential. Exposing them to all the five sense can also help into their artwork and produce work that has inspired them. Art should have no limit and students would be able to draw what they are truly feeling which I consider is true art. As an art teacher, I want to be a looked as a stepping-stone or someone who they can come to for advice and see what students create on their own and be proud of what they designed. That for me would make teaching art very rewarding and fulfilling Students should be encouraged to join art clubs so they can practice and be with other students that enjoy the same passion. I would gladly be a mediator for the club if that many students were passionate enough to learn after school with fellow students and friends. School group activities, projects, and critiques will
make their passion stronger and have more love and respect for art. Since I love drawing and creating that I wanted to pass it on to students who love art just as much.I like the quote,” The principle goal of education in the schools should be creating men and women who are capable of doing new things, not simply repeating what other generations have done.” Jean Piaget said this and the reason is that I like this quote is because as an art teacher you want to see new talent and be able to teach and create different projects. It’s a good reminder to not teach the same thing year after year and it helps me remember that if I want to teach about drawing nature, then all I have to do is to change the environment and teach outside.
I have not yet had an experience where I have failed and learned as a teacher but I did have a different experience happen to me. When I was in grade school, I was struggling to write a story and never had good grades when I turned in a paper that I wrote. No matter what I read
or how much help I got it was not enough. My writing was getting better but not in a way where it was acceptable. What pushed me was that the teacher was saying that it was not very good constantly and hearing that as a child would usually stop me however, my personally being stubborn, it just drove me to try harder. So eventually after a few years before leaving grade school, I was able to write a story where it was accepted into the author’s tea. It made me realize that even though I kept failing and thinking I would never to able to write an acceptable story, that with enough motivation and work that it would end up improving over time. I never would have thought that I would have written a story well enough to be accepted into the author’s tea. My inspiration to become an artist was my uncle. He was an artist and was always drawing. He was able to draw on the spot and knew how to draw everything. I had a cousin who loves to draw and would ask advice on techniques. It made me realize that not only do I love to draw but I love teaching it and explaining it as well. It made me realize that to be an artist does not only mean you draw on paper or for a studio but that teaching it to students is a artist as well but you teach it.
